Skin Disease

The skin is an outward expression of your internal health.

Healing skin diseases is one of the greatest successes in our office.

(Generally, on a daily basis)

Natural treatment of skin disease often results in a long-lasting and less invasive way of treating the most common skin conditions we see in our office.

It often appears that there is a magic pill or drug for just about everything under the sun.

Sometimes those drugs are good at covering up the symptoms, but they never fix the underlying problem (ok, maybe never is a strong word). Let’s say rarely; and when they do, it is usually in the case of an acute infection.

Our Integrative medicine approach in dealing with many chronic skin conditions begins with identifying the root cause of disease, and then addressing that cause so that balance is restored and health returns.

Here is a list of some of the most common issues we treat naturally in our office.

  • Acne

  • Rosacea

  • Lupus

  • Cold Sores

  • Psoriasis

  • Eczema

  • Hives

  • Candidiasis

  • Impetigo

  • Canker Sores

  • Herpes

  • Fungal Nail Infections

  • Shingles

  • Warts

First, some interesting and fun facts about the importance of the skin.

(And why you should take good care of it.)

  • It's the largest organ of the body

  • It makes up 15% of your body weight

  • There are two different types of skin

  • 50% of the dust in your home is dead skin

  • Good fats (digestion) keeps your skin healthy

  • It can take babies six months to develop their permanent skin color

  • Boils are caused by a bacterial infection

  • We sweat as much as three gallons per day

  • Breasts are a type of modified sweat gland

  • There are three layers of skin.

Healing skin diseases is one of the greatest successes in our office.

There are a few different reasons for this.

The first reason is motivation. The skin diseases mentioned above are often an outward expression of the internal health of your body. Very rarely does the skin malfunction; it’s something that is so simple, it just works. Being that the skin is something that everyone sees, many of these conditions can be very embarrassing. As such, the motivation to do something and stick with it is usually very high. When someone suffers in silence, they can often endure for a long time; but when there is social or mental pain it can be more unbearable than the actual physical pain itself

Reason number two for great success rates. I often tell my skin disease patients that they are actually lucky for their skin disease. It can be hard to see it like that, but I explain it like this. Since a skin disease is an outward expression of your internal health, it will show up fairly early when something is not working right in the body. This means that we actually pick up the issue, such as a malfunction affecting the thyroid, much earlier than in someone else. It can also help prevent further health problems by helping us catch these hidden issues earlier.

Reason number 3. When we start to restore balance and health to your body, you will generally have a significant and speedy recovery in your symptoms. When you get that type of quick response, it provides a positive reinforcement to continue doing what you are doing and to move forward to get even healthier.

 What actually causes skin diseases?

Since many of the skin diseases we see in our office are actually a symptom (not a cause) of disease, there are generally other issues going on in the body that need to be addressed. I won’t go into great detail on this page, I will just refer you to other pages on my website. Although there can be many different causes of the various skin diseases we see in our office, the three biggest areas of imbalance in the body that GREATLY influence skin health are, in no particular order:

Hormone issues (including thyroid)

Digestion

Detoxification

Take a look at those pages. Many times the skin issue may be a first SYMPTOM of imbalance in other areas of your health.
